Goodnight Clapham
Goodnight Clapham is a suite of six pieces for guitar that tell the story of one summer night on London’s Clapham Common.
And the accompanying poem:
The Future of Shadows
At the dusk-end of workaday trials, the breath of the evening garden
Spills the perfume of a night-blooming flower.
Later, alone, we lie under the punctured firmament, light demurely visible.
From the bandstand, through the trees, the lamps in the grand houses
Are darkening, one by one.
Floating through the day-for-night streets,
Light chases its shadow.
As of course, it must.
